The Beginning
of Ebroidery in Terceira Island
Since inhabiting
the island(XV Century), has the Terceiran woman started to idealize
embroidery openly and fully (stitches more used during that time)
for the clothes of the Portuguese maidens, furthermore, already
in the XIX Century, the exporting of embroidery to the USA, Canada,
Brazil, England, and Germany was started in an industrialized
and regular fashion.
At this time, Terceiran embroidery became noted by it's recelieu
and full stitch. In 1998 it was atributed a certificate of artisan
and orginal quality (by Portuguese law number 89/98 if December
3rd).
